After moving to England in 2000, it took me a few years before I got to exploring Cumbria's Lake District in earnest. Of course, there was the matter of my taking up hill walking too, and other locations also beckoned when it came to dreaming up ideas for outings. Between all of this, it was 2003 that became the "Year of the Lake District, Cumbria" for me. Much of my attention was focussed around Keswick that time, but I have spread to other parts too with Windermere, Ambleside, Coniston, Patterdale, Grasmere and Buttermere all being alternate staring points for hill country hikes. A spot of recent refurbishment has reminded me of the value of revisiting at least some of the places featured here, if only to bring away better photos if for nothing else. However, there are more locations that I have frequented that deserve a spot in the gallery and I hope to set aside some time to add these too.
