Ingleborough, Ingleton, North Yorkshire, England

Coming south on the Settle-Carlisle railway from Garsdale would bring you into Ribblesdale, home to Yorkshire's Three Peaks: Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent. The hills are far from peak-shaped but are the highest in the Pennines. It is possible to walk them in one day but a 26 mile (or 42 km) ramble in this terrain is not a light undertaking even with sufficient daylight and clement weather; a high level of fitness is a must!

A winter wander took me over Ingleborough when walking from Ribblehead station on the Settle-Carlisle railway to Ingleborough. Snow had gathered on its flat top as well while some slushy stuff was braved on the last stage of the ascent. My approach was deliberate so as to go from east to west in order to be descending snow-free slopes. As I approached Ingleton, many glimpses of what lay behind me convinced me to make images of what I was seeing and this is but one. Maybe, it would have been better if Ingleborough wasn't lying in the shadows but you have to make something of what you get and I think the result pleasing enough.
