Callerhues Crag, Bellingham, Northumberland, England

My brief encounter with the countryside around Bellingham is a reminder of the challenges of photographic the countryside through which the Pennine Way passes. There's a lot of moorland but that can be devoid of focal points. That tests navigational skills too, particularly when you have to walk through clag as I did around Standedge in West Yorkshire.

The countryside immediately to the north of Bellingham is pleasant but a little nondescript. It's also quiet so you won't find the cares of modern life intruding on your peace but memorable photos are tricky around here. Handily, the 341 metre Callerhues Crag affords something that can be shared and hills aren't so high around it either. Going further north takes one over greater heights though the view above might have you agreeing with Wainwright that it would have been better for the Pennine Way to have stopped at Hadrian's Wall. As for me, I need to walk more of the trail before offering an opinion of my own.
