This is now the only road approach to Castleton from the west. However, there was another, the A625, but that had to be abandoned following a major landslip on the side of Mam Tor, the result of which is still very visible today. This has one benefit, though, that being the chance to enjoy a very unique landscape. This itself is a result of Winnat's Pass being the site of a coral reef aeons ago, before it got elevated from the sea bed. Above is the eastern view from the pass with Win Hill appearing in the background.
