On the way to Keswick from Penrith, you cannot miss Blencathra as you pass Threlkeld but it's Skiddaw that's unmissable while you're around Keswick. Not only that but it has magnetic effect on camera lenses too as I found on my visits to the place. As if to prove that I took in other subjects too, here's one of the area's oldest churches, St. Kentigern's (he became St. Mungo when he went to Scotland) at Great Crosthwaite. The building dates mostly from the fifteenth century though parts are earlier than this with the twelfth century being cited. Notable features include the emblems of St. Kentigern in the churchyard gates and a memorial to local poet Robert Southey, after whom a street must be named in Keswick itself.
