A Wanderer's Photo Gallery
One of the things that gets me exploring Britain and Ireland is the prospect of bringing away some pleasing photos of my own making with me. Not only has that fostered the growth of an interest in hillwalking and cycling but it also has driven me to further the photography itself. All that has created the library of images from which the collections that you find here have been drawn.

Roman Gardens, Chester, England

Roman Gardens, Chester, England

Chester has quite a mix of historical remnants with some in ruins, others in a good state of repair and more in current usage. The periods represented include Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Norman, Tudor and Victorian times among others. What you find in the photo is a collection of artifacts dating from the first of these collected from other sites in Cheshire in a garden of a far newer vintage. Included among these is a hypocast, an underfloor heating arrangement that the Romans used to thwart any chill brought by a cooler climate than that to which they must have been accustomed. Thinking about it now, I wonder if they realised what they were leaving after them or how long it would take others to start to appreciate the inheritance.
