You are here: Photo Gallery » Looking east along the River Dee, Llangollen, Denbighsire, Wales

Llangollen is somewhere that I have visited a good few times now but I have more photos of the countryside surrounding the town than I do of the town itself. A recent Easter visit added the image that you see here to my collection and, for a day with a dull start, it really got a brilliant ending with strong directional sunlight adding a little something to views of the surroundings. These are the things that draw me to places away from home.
Perhaps due to its proximity to places such as Wrexham and Chester, this little place has little trouble attracting visitors. You could come here any weekend and see a good few folk milling about the place. Apart from its appealing location on the Dee in a steep-sided valley, there are other attractions too. The heritage railway that runs from Llangollen to Carrog and back almost guarantees good patronage on its running days. Then, there's the National Trust property of Plas Neudd, a timber-framed edifice that reminds me of what is near at hand to me in Cheshire. Once upon a time, it was the residence of two well-heeled Irish ladies who entertained the great and good of the literary world, it seems.
