Dinbren Hall, Llangollen, Denbighshire, Wales

Making the effort to ascend to the ruins of Castell Dinas Brân castle is well worth your while as you should see from this photo. There's not much left of the castle now but it once was one of the most important fortifications in this part of Wales. It was built in the 1230's by the then Prince of northern Powys, Madog ap Gruffydd Maelor, whose other great construction in the area was Valle Crucis Abbey. The name means Crow's Fortress Castle.

These days it is the panoramic visitas that draw folk up there these days and what you see above proves that even a cloudy day in February can leave out the sun from time to time. Dinbren Hall is the white house in the bottom left corner and it is dwarfed by the hills lining the north of the Dee Valley. The nearby Berwyn Hills line the valley's southern flank.
