Llyn Llydaw, Llanberis, Gwynedd, Wales

While not the view from Yr Wyddfa itself, this is what you see from a spot not far removed from it. The airy ridge of Crib Goch is there at the left and Llyn Llydaw can be seen below it with its causeway. If you look carefully, you can even see a track leading up here. I must admit that looking down on views like this in real life does my vertigo little good but that came a long way from what it was like twelve months before this picture was taken. Nevertheless, I have a way to go before I can ascend Snowdon via Crib Goch!

Thanks to having a railway line to its summit, Yr Wyddfa itself can get a little crowded, making photography like this from the mountain itself almost impossible unless you are willing to go up the mountain before the first train arrives or wait until after the last one of the day has left. Four trains, two steam-driven and two diesel, ply the mountain in season and make the concrete platform on Snowdon itself standing room only. Walking is by far the cheaper option though since the return fare was £25 when I last checked!
