Trafrask, Adrigole, Co. Cork, Éire

Along the road from Adrigole to Glengarriff, there are numerous signs displaying the legend "Trá", the Irish for beach. However, it might surprise you what often passes for a beach around here. At least one of these leads to a stony shoreline rather than anything remotely sandy. What you see above is sandy though there are plenty of rocks too: handy for adding foreground interest to the above photo. The Cahas add the backdrop.

Along this stretch of coast a public footpath has been laid in memory of two brothers who grew up around here and died while serving with the US army during World War II. The money provided was Irish American and signs to this effect appear along the path. Amazingly, it is hardly known in guidebooks and it is not signed from the main road even though it is attractively laid out. I suppose that it is another of those Irish amenities that are worth savouring, if you can find them first!
