Beinn Liath, Port of Menteith, Stirling District, Scotland

On its way from Aberfoyle to Callander, the Rob Roy Way travels through a good deal of conifer forestry, which thankfully contains its share of RRW waymarkers to keep you on the straight and narrow. However, as if to give you a break from the conifers, the old right of way that forms part of the trail in question emerges briefly onto open hillside. Much of the Menteith Hills have been passed at this point but there remains a feast for the eyes regardless of this. The hills are not so high hereabouts but that is no drawback. As it happens, views of higher, wilder and sometimes rockier hills are not so far away at all with the drop down to the shores of Loch Vennacher being at hand. While following the shores of that loch, views of Ben Ledi and others are in plentiful supply though pesky clouds filled up the sky by the time that I approached the eye candy on my way to Callander. Even so, there was no rain so I really shouldn't be grumbling.
