Any glance into the throat of Glen Nevis from the Loch Linnhe direction will present a full frontal view of Sgurr a' Mhàim in the background. Its white quartzite cap (which I thought was snow when I first saw it) has captivated me since I first laid eyes on it during a stroll in the glen in 1998. And that is saying something with all that is on offer here (the mountain is far more obvious a feature in the glen than Ben Nevis itself): views of wild mountains tamed in places by vegetation. This is an August view from 2002 when foxgloves were still flowering in abundance. Also visible though partially obscured by the slopes occupied by the Nevis Forest, is a spur of Stob Bàn, the other side of which we admired earlier, with Mullach nan Coirean hidden away at the right.
