You don't see much of Ben Nevis from the floor of Glen Nevis, but even a short ascent will reward your efforts, even if the really dramatic view of the Ben is on the other side. Nevertheless, this are plenty of wrinkles on which to feast your eyes. As it happens, this is another January view in the glen with Meall an t-Suidhe on the left and the Ben itself on the right. The "tourist" path to the Ben rounds Meall an t-Suidhe on its way to Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe before the ascent on the Ben itself starts in earnest. A possible escape route is presents itself on reaching the lochan, in the form of a descent into the valley of Alt a' Mhuilinn. An alternative route to the Ben over the Carn Mor Dearg arête is for experienced hillwalkers with a good head for heights since some exposure is guaranteed; that allows plenty of glimpses at Ben Nevis' awesome gullies and cliffs.
