Loch Treig, Fersit, Lochaber, Scotland

There's a warning sign by the side of the path from the car park at the end of the Glen Nevis towards the Nevis Gorge and beyond. I thought it a bit over the top when I first saw it but now see its sense when I consider the wild country that lies beyond. That said, I think that the sometime stroller should soon get the picture anyway...

Though the road finishes at the car park, there is a right of way that extends all the way to Corrour train station and there are others intersecting it. Following the Corrour "track" (as with a lot of Scottish hill tracks, don't expect a hard core surface underfoot) brings you to Loch Treig. Having passed it a number of times on the West Highland Line, I finally encountered it on foot in 2006 during the May Day bank holiday weekend.

To some, the season is late spring; to others, early summer (in school, I was taught that summer began at the start of May). Nevertheless, browns dominate the landscape with relief offered by the blue of Loch Treig and the snow on the mountain tops, some of which form part of the Grey Corries. I saw more snow in May than I saw in my January visit to Glen Nevis: I will keep that in mind for the future.
