Staying with the westward aspect, here is a scene from a visit to Glen Nevis five years ago; yes, it sounds a bit frightening now. That time, I made my way along the glen to finish on the lower slopes of Sgurr a' Mhàim from where this scene was captured. After enjoying the vistas on offer in golden August evening sunshine, I made my return to Fort William for the night.
Just to show that this steep sided glen can obscure sun early in the day, even on summer evenings, that is its southern side in shadow. Ben Nevis is hidden from view by the craggy outline of Carn Dearg, a heady height at 1020 m, with the lesser hill of Meall a' t-Suidhe poking in behind. Beyond that, the hills on the opposite side of Loch Linnhe can be seen, still drenched by the evening sun.
