A Wanderer's Photo Gallery
One of the things that gets me exploring Britain and Ireland is the prospect of bringing away some pleasing photos of my own making with me. Not only has that fostered the growth of an interest in hillwalking and cycling but it also has driven me to further the photography itself. All that has created the library of images from which the collections that you find here have been drawn.

Holyrood Park as seen from Calton Hill, Edinburgh, Scotland

Staying on Calton Hill but taking in the wider view shows us not just Holyrood Palace but also the new Scottish Parliament building and the Dynamic Earth visitor centre. Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat provide the backdrop. If you want to forget that you're in a city, just go among these two. I suppose that places like this may explain why some Glaswegians may refer to Edinburgh derisively as a network of villages rather than being a city. However, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Of Edinburgh's other seven hills, Arthur's Seat this is the highest of all of them and is also the second extinct volcano occurring in Edinburgh. The top of Arthur's Seat is 815 feet (ca. 244 metres) above sea level. It then takes little stretch of the imagination to realise that there is quite a view from there. You can see all around and outside Edinburgh, although a pair of binoculars certainly would help!
