A Wanderer's Photo Gallery
One of the things that gets me exploring Britain and Ireland is the prospect of bringing away some pleasing photos of my own making with me. Not only has that fostered the growth of an interest in hillwalking and cycling but it also has driven me to further the photography itself. All that has created the library of images from which the collections that you find here have been drawn.

Village Green, Kirk Yetholm, Borders, Scotland

Like in Edale, Pennine Way hikers either start or end their walk here. Something tells me that more end here than start here though I did meet someone doing the latter while staying in the SYHA hostel after walking from Wooler to Kirk Yetholm using the route of St. Cuthbert's Way. He was planning on using his mobile phone for navigation, not something that I'd advise doing without having a compass and paper mapping as backup. He had walked from Edinburgh so I was between minds whether or not to pass any comment. Hopefully, things worked out well for him though the section to Byrness would have been a stern test.

Beyond the green, the Borders Hotel lurks in the shadows cast by the morning sun of a Saturday in July. Apparently, it is where many compete the walk from Edale with a half pint on someone else's tab. There is a rumour that this arrangment arose at the behest of a certain Alfred Wainwright. Today, the suggestion that it is paid for by his estate is denied so I am not sure how it comes about these days. Nevertheless, given the distance of 268 miles, any such reward is justified.
