One of the things that gets me exploring Britain and Ireland is the prospect of bringing away some pleasing photos of my own making with me. Not only has that fostered the growth of an interest in hillwalking and cycling but it also has driven me to further the photography itself. All that has created the library of images from which the collections that you find here have been drawn.

Loch Etive, Argyll, Scotland

Loch Etive, Argyll, Scotland

The River Kinglass flows into Loch Etive, so it should be of no surprise that we end up on its shores for our next stop of the journey. This photo was taken in July 2003, when dwindling film supplies were a concern and an annoyance. This was a return visit following what turned out to be reconnaissance on a weekend spent with friends the previous November; then, the weather didn't behave as I would have liked. Nevertheless, the Autumnal reds, yellows and browns almost made up for the lack of blue sky!

On my return, I got to experience the tranquility and isolation of the place: the only way in from any direction is on hill tracks: the one through Glen Kinglass brings you from Bridge of Orchy, another from Glencoe via Glen Etive and there is also one from Taynuilt. This is a large expanse of wild country, hence my doubting my sense of reason on my walk here last June, and the mountains in the background hem in Glen Etive and continue beyond Glencoe.
