Kettlewell, North Yorkshire, England

Kettlewell, North Yorkshire, England

Finally, we reach Kettlewell, an idyllic little place in the centre of a lot of action as regards hill walking. It is also on the Dales Way but is a great stop overnight if you want to explore around here. Its name comes from the Norse for bubbling spring and it is crossed by several streams. It is also situated on the eastern bank of the Wharfe. It has Norman foundations but its buildings nowadays are primarily Victorian in character. While its economy is now derived from tourism and sheep farming, lead mining was part of the picture in times gone by.
