Dinbren Hall, Llangollen, Denbighshire, Wales

We finish our Denbighshire ramble among the ruins of Castell Dinas Bran. The ruins do their best to belie that this 800 foot high mount was host to one of the most important castles in this part of Wales. It was built in the 1230's by the then Prince of northern Powys, Madog ap Gruffydd Maelor, whose other great construction in the area was Valle Crucis Abbey. The name means Crow's Fortress Castle.

These days the mount allows views like the above and there were many more of the same quality. Dinbren Hall is the white house in the bottom left corner and it is dwarfed by the hills lining the north of the Dee Valley. The nearby Berwyn Hills line the valley's southern flank.
